About the Meeting
This talk be given by Daniel Pryor, Head of Programmes at the Adam Smith Institute, and will set out the current state of smoking prevalence in the UK, discuss the impacts on health and wellbeing, and evaluate the impact that traditional tobacco control measures have had on these figures. It will also cover the principles of tobacco harm reduction and discuss the impact of various reduced-risk products like e-cigarettes, snus, and heat-not-burn devices on health and smoking rates.
Daniel will finish up by discussing what's holding us back from fully capitalising on these gains (advertising controls, media reporting, certain product regulations) and set out the political landscape for reform (which is looking more likely by the month). Specifically, Daniel will look at how insurance firms have responded to e-cigarettes in the UK and suggest avenues for changing approach too.
Please arrive at 5.30pm to sign-in before a 6pm start.
Snacks and drinks will be served after the talk.
