This page sets out the terms of use of our website www.sias.org.uk (our site). This website belongs to the Staple Inn Actuarial Society Ltd (SIAS) and contains a selection of material for information purposes only.

Please read these terms of use carefully before using our site. Please also check the terms from time to time.

1.  Acceptance

By using our site, you indicate that you accept:

  • All proprietary rights in the material displayed and/or received shall remain the property of the Staple Inn Actuarial Society (SIAS).

We aim to update our site regularly, and may change the material from time to time. Any of the material on our site may be out of date at any given time, and we are under no obligation to update it

From time to time we may restrict access to some or all parts of our site to users who have registered with us.

Our status (and that of any identified contributors) as the authors of material on our site must always be acknowledged and all relevant copyright laws abided by.

7.  User generated content

SIAS encourages use of this website for professional networking and expects all users to abide by these terms of use. Users must communicate and network online with appropriate discretion and courtesy. SIAS is not responsible for any user generated content including user comments, the content of discussion forums (“the forums”) and messages posted by users on social media sites where we have a presence. In particular, without limitation, SIAS has no responsibility for any advice or information posted by any user or for any reliance placed on that advice or information. Users shall not upload, transmit, distribute or otherwise publish on this site any materials which:

  • libels, defames, or is obscene, pornographic, abusive or threatening
  • infringes the intellectual property rights of any other person including (without limitation) infringing any person’s copyright or trademark
  • is illegal
  • advocates illegal activity
  • advertises or solicits funds or is a solicitation for or offer to supply goods or services unless approved by us (together “Non-Approved Items”)

SIAS reserves the right to exclude from using this site any person whom we consider to be in breach of any of these terms and conditions.

8.  Misuse of site

You must not misuse our site. Misuse includes but is not limited to introducing viruses, trojans, worms, logic bombs or other material which is malicious or technologically harmful. You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to our site, the server on which our site is stored or any server, computer or database connected to our site. You must not attack our site via a denial-of-service attack or a distributed denial-of service attack.

Where there is a breach of the legislation including but not limited to a criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990, we will report any such breach to the relevant law enforcement authorities. We will co-operate with those authorities by disclosing your identity to them. In the event of such a breach, your right to use our site will cease immediately.

9.  Links to our site

You must not link to our home page unless you have obtained our prior written consent. Where such a link is agreed, you must only link to our home page in a way that is fair and legal and does not damage our reputation or take advantage of it

You must not establish a link in such a way as to suggest any form of association, approval or endorsement on our part where none exists.

You must not establish a link from any website that is not owned by you.

Our site must not be framed on any other site, nor may you create a link to any part of our site other than the home page subject to our prior written consent.

We reserve the right to withdraw linking permission without notice.
